Liverpool will not part ways with 26-year-old Italian international Federico Chiesa on loan in the January transfer window.
According to a report by TEAMtalk, Federico Chiesa will unlikely leave Liverpool in the summer transfer window. Recent updates have pointed to the Merseyside club mulling over sanctioning a loan move for the Italian international in the January transfer window. However, that will not see the light of day amid the links with Serie A clubs like AS Roma and Inter Milan.
Federico Chiesa and his Liverpool journey so far
Federico Chiesa has had to bide his time since joining Liverpool from Juventus in a deal worth £12.5 million in the summer transfer window. The Italian international has seen his performance levels fall considerably since returning from a long injury-enforced layoff 18 months ago.
The 27-year-old struggled in the 2023/24 season and needed a change to get his career back on track. However, Chiesa has managed only 78 minutes of game time across three appearances thus far for Liverpool, chipping in with one assist.
With Chiesa slow to settle down at the Merseyside club, recent reports have created rumours that Liverpool might sanction a loan deal for him in the January transfer window. Meanwhile, there is no shortage of interest in the former Juventus attacker, with Inter Milan and AS Roma among his prospective suitors.
Serie A return on the horizon?
Inter Milan’s interest in Federico Chiesa is understandable. The reigning Serie A champions want to bolster their offensive unit in the summer transfer window to aid their prospects in the title race. So, the Liverpool attacker has emerged as a viable target for Inter Milan. As for AS Roma, Ivan Juric is eager to mount a recovery in the second half of the 2024/25 season.
Juric’s charges are tenth in the Serie A standings after a slow start to their 2024/25 campaign. So, Chiesa is a viable short-term target for AS Roma. However, a move for the Liverpool attacker will not see the light of day, with Liverpool not expected to sanction a loan move for the Italian international.
Liverpool’s decision makes sense, considering Chiesa can be a handy option in the second half of the 2024/25 season. It will be interesting to see if he can grow in stature at the Merseyside club in the coming months.
