Liverpool, Newcastle United vying for Mile Svilar

Liverpool will reportedly compete with Newcastle United in the race to sign 25-year-old Serbian goalkeeper Mile Svilar from Serie A club AS Roma.

According to a report by Italian outlet AS Roma Live, Mile Svilar is the subject of interest from Liverpool. In addition, the AS Roma goalkeeper is a target for Newcastle United. Meanwhile, the Serie A outfit will demand at least €35-40 million to part ways with the 25-year-old goalkeeper next year, although they will look to tie him to a new contract.

Mile Svilar and his career so far

Mile Svilar has been a solid goalkeeper since joining AS Roma from SL Benfica in July 2022. A native of Antwerpen, the Serb spent his formative years in Belgium, passing through the academies at three clubs before graduating from the youth division at RSC Anderlecht.

While the 25-year-old has not been the undisputed first-choice goalkeeper for AS Roma, he has made his mark with his performances between the sticks. Svilar has turned out nearly 50 times thus far for the Serie A club while keeping 14 clean sheets and conceding 44 goals.

The Serbian goalkeeper’s progress at AS Roma has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several high-profile clubs across Europe, especially in the Premier League. Recent reports have linked Svilar with Manchester City. The latest update has revealed that Liverpool and Newcastle United are vying for his signature.

Premier League move on the horizon?

Liverpool’s interest in Mile Svilar is understandable. The Reds are in a spot of bother over the long-term future of Alisson Becker. While he does not want to move to the Saudi Pro League, a departure might be on the cards next year. So, Svilar has emerged as a viable target for Liverpool.

As for Newcastle United, the Tyneside outfit might part ways with Nick Pope next year. The Magpies have been scouring the market for a goalkeeper for several months, with Pope’s long-term future at St. James’ Park uncertain. So, Svilar is an option worth considering for Newcastle United.

The report claims that AS Roma will demand at least €35-40 million to part ways with the 25-year-old Serbian goalkeeper. While the Serie A club will prefer to keep hold of Svilar, they will stick to the price tag of at least €35-40 million if the Serb looks to embark on a new adventure.
