Manchester City working on deal to sign Martin Zubimendi

Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City are working behind the scenes to sign Real Sociedad midfield mainstay Martin Zubimendi.

According to Rodra P and Jorge C. Picon, Manchester City are interested in the services of Martin Zubimendi, and they could try to sign the Real Sociedad star when the transfer window reopens in January. The Spaniard has a release clause worth €60 million in his contract.

Zubimendi has come up the ranks at the Spanish club, and he has been a consistent performer for them over the years. The 25-year-old defensive midfielder’s work has not gone unnoticed, and he has been on the wishlist of quite a few top clubs.

Liverpool tried everything in their power to sign the UEFA Euro 2024 winner during the summer window. The Reds had a verbal agreement in place with the player, and they were ready to trigger his €60 million release clause. But, in the end, Zubimendi decided against making the move to Anfield.

The Spanish midfielder decided to stay at his childhood club which now presents an opportunity to other interested clubs to sign him at the next possible opportunity. Manchester City are looking to make the most out of it and add the Spanish international to their squad.

Manchester City could look to sign Zubimendi

Rodri has picked up a serious knee injury, which will keep him on the sidelines for the majority of the season. While Guardiola is trying his best to cope with his absences with the help of other options that are available to him, Manchester City are also looking at the market for a potential replacement.

Atalanta’s Ederson and Crystal Palace’s Adam Wharton have been linked with the Premier League champions. Apart from the duo, they are also interested in Zubimendi, who can not only cover for Rodri but also become one of their mainstays in the long run. Since the UEFA Euro 2024 winner is yet to pen down a new deal, the €60 million release clause is still valid, and Manchester City’s sports management wants to make full use of it.

While Real Sociedad will do everything possible to retain their key player during the winter transfer window, Guardiola’s Manchester City will push hard to bring him into their squad. The fact that he turned down a move to Liverpool suggests he might not want to leave Real Sociedad midway through the season. But that won’t stop City from trying.
