Chevalier has come up the ranks at Lille. While he has been a part of their first team since the summer of 2020, he has had a prominent role in the team in recent years. The 22-year-old shot-stopper has made quite a name for himself with his consistent performances and he is considered to be one of the best young goalkeepers in the world.

The French youth international has been linked with a move to a bigger club for some time and he did his chances no harm with an exceptional performance against Real Madrid. He kept the Spanish giants at bay and helped his team secure a 1-0.

City & Newcastle are interested in Lille sensation

Chevalier has been on the wishlist of Manchester City for a long while. Pep Guardiola’s team have been scouting him for over 12 months. They see him as an ideal long-term replacement for Ederson. The Brazilian was linked with a move to the Middle East. While he did end up staying in England, his long-term future is not certain.

Apart from City, Newcastle United have also been keeping a close eye on the young shot-stopper’s progress. The Magpies are scouting the goalkeeper market as they want to prepare for the long run. Their current number one, Nick Pope will be 33 when the season ends and they want to bring in someone who can take over from him.

Chevalier is 10 years younger and he could be an ideal fit for Eddie Howe’s system as he is much more comfortable on the ball. He had already made quite a name for himself and his performance against Los Blancos has further enhanced his reputation. City and Newcastle are willing to battle for his signature and it will be interesting to see who comes out on top.
