Chelsea have reportedly scouted Bayer Leverkusen’s Victor Boniface, with the Nigerian forward potentially a cheaper option than other targets.
According to Chelsea journalist Simon Phillips, Chelsea’s search for a new number nine continues despite the top form of their current forwards. The Blues are internally holding talks about potentially signing a striker, and Victor Boniface has emerged as a potential target.
The West London club are interested in the 23-year-old Bayer Leverkusen star, who has gone from strength to strength since making the move to Germany. They have recently had sent scouts to watch him in action and could soon push for his services.
Boniface had an impressive debut season at Leverkusen and he has carried on in similar fashion in the new season with four goals and an assist in his six outings. The Nigerian international still has close to four years left on his deal but top clubs could soon look to prise him away from the German club.
Chelsea’s search for a new striker continues
Chelsea are one of the clubs keen on securing his services. The Blues are still discussing the idea of bringing in a new striker despite Nicolas Jackson hitting top form and Christopher Nkunku delivering consistent performances.
While it doesn’t mean that they will push to sign one in the winter, they are surely looking at all the options at their disposal. They had sent scouts to Germany to watch the 23-year-old in action and are quite impressed with the Nigerian international who has been regarded as a complete forward by his manager Xabi Alonso.
Victor Boniface the cheapest option
The Blues have discussed the idea of signing Boniface as well as their other top targets Viktor Gyökeres and Victor Osimhen. While they have assured the Napoli ace that they will return for his services, a report from TEAMtalk suggests the 23-year-old Leverkusen will be a much cheaper option than the other two.
The in-demand Gyokeres has a release clause worth £85 million, while Boniface will cost around £70 million mark. While they can sign Osimhen for £62.5 million, the Bayer Leverkusen striker will cost less in the long run as his wage demands will be much lower than the Napoli superstar.
