Manchester City eyeing Xavi Simons as Kevin De Bruyne successor

Manchester City might pursue 21-year-old Dutch playmaker and Liverpool target Xavi Simons to be Kevin De Bruyne’s long-term successor.

According to a report by Football Insider, Xavi Simons is the subject of interest from Manchester City. The Premier League champions are scouring the market for a long-term successor to Kevin De Bruyne. The 21-year-old playmaker has thus emerged as a target, with Liverpool also keen on signing him next year.

Xavi Simons has established himself as one of the best young playmakers in the world in the last 24 months. The Dutchman has had lively career thus far, representing high-profile clubs like FC Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain. However, he rose in prominence during his short spell with PSV Eindhoven.

The 21-year-old finally found a stable footing in his career after ending his first stint with PSG as a free agent, becoming a productive playmaker at PSV Eindhoven. PSG re-signed Simons last year before loaning him to RB Leipzig, where he was excellent and contributed to 25 goals by finding the back of the net ten times and providing 15 assists.

Simons returned to PSG this past summer before RB Leipzig re-signed him on a season-long loan deal. While several high-profile clubs considered securing his services, RB Leipzig always led the chase. Meanwhile, the Netherlands international remains on the radar of Premier League bigwigs, with Manchester City and Liverpool among his prospective suitors.
