Liverpool best-placed to sign Jonathan Tah

Liverpool are reportedly the front-runners to sign Chelsea, Barcelona and Manchester United defensive target Jonathan Tah.

According to Sport Bild via Sport Witness, Jonathan Tah is expected to be on the move next summer. While there is no shortage of interest in his services, Liverpool are believed to be the best-placed team to sign the Bayer Leverkusen defensive mainstay, a target for Barcelona, Chelsea, and Manchester United.

Tah has been a part of Bayer Leverkusen’s first team setup since the summer of 2015, and he has only gone from strength to strength over the years. He played a key role in their incredible run last season as they lifted the Bundesliga title unbeaten.

While the 28-year-old remains an integral part of their first-team setup under Xabi Alonso, he is expected to be on the move in the near future. Jonathan Tah was on the verge of joining Bayern Munich in the summer. But the move collapsed and it is no longer a possibility as per the report.

However, Tah’s contract runs out in the summer of 2025, and he has already made it clear that he won’t be signing an extension. As a result, multiple top clubs are gearing up to push for his services.

With the German international all set to be available for free, Barcelona do have a realistic chance of signing him next summer. They did make a last-minute attempt to sign him in the recently concluded window as their sporting director Deco reached out to Bayer Leverkusen CEO Fernando Carro. While the deal collapsed this time out, they could soon return for his services.

Liverpool leading the race for Tah’s services

The player has a long-standing desire to play in the Premier League where Manchester United, Chelsea, and Liverpool are all keen on his signature. The Blues already have enough depth in the heart of the defence, but they seek more experience and Tah could be a great signing for them.

While Manchester United are interested in his services, they have added Leny Yoro and Matthijs de Ligt to their squad this summer. As a result, they might not be in the picture to sign the 28-year-old in 12 months.

Liverpool remain keen on his services, and they are believed to be the best-placed club to win the race for him. Virgil Van Dijk’s contract at the club runs out next summer, and his long-term future at the club is quite uncertain. With the Dutch international’s future unclear, Arne Slot could look to start holding talks with Tah regarding a move to Anfield next summer.
