Chelsea and Tottenham were both keen on signing Lecce defensive sensation Patrick Dorgu in the recently concluded transfer window.
According to Fabrizio Romano, Patrick Dorgu was on the wishlist of Chelsea as well as Tottenham Hotspur. Both Premier League clubs considered making a move for the Lecce full-back during the recently concluded transfer window. But talks did not progress because of the Italian club’s massive demands of a €30-35 million fee.
Dorgu made the move to the Italian outfit in the summer of 2022 from FC Nordsjaelland. While it was an initial loan transfer, the move became permanent in the summer of 2023, and he was also promoted to their first team on the back of his impressive performances at the Under-19 level.
In his debut campaign with the senior side, he was involved in 34 matches across competitions and ended up making quite a name for himself. His ability to feature anywhere on either flank along with his huge potential has resulted in a significant amount of interest in his services.
At 19, Dorgu has already made his international debut, and he is expected to have an important role in the Lecce first-team this season. While he still has three years left on his deal, the teenage full-back was linked with a move away from the club in the recently concluded window.
Chelsea and Tottenham had Dorgu on their shortlist
Two Premier League giants were interested in signing the teenage sensation. Tottenham who have focused on signing young players under the leadership of Ange Postecoglou had the young full-back on their shortlist for the summer,
Meanwhile, Chelsea, who have forked out a fortune to bring the best young talents from across Europe to Stamford Bridge, were also keen on signing him. The Blues were looking to sign the 2004-born defender with the help of sister club Strasbourg back in July.
Despite interest from two of the biggest English clubs, the 19-year-old has ended up staying at the Italian club. Romano has suggested that talks with either club did not progress because of Lecce’s massive asking price. They wanted more than €30-35 million for Dorgu. Neither club were willing to meet their demands as the Danish international is still an unknown commodity in the world of football.
