Manchester United will reportedly look to sign 20-year-old Chelsea midfield prospect Carney Chukwuemeka, while West Ham United will unlikely land him.
According to an update by Dharmesh Sheth on Sky Sports, Carney Chukwuemeka is the subject of interest from Manchester United. The Red Devils are on the verge of signing Manuel Ugarte from Paris Saint-Germain but want another midfielder amid uncertainties surrounding the future of Christian Eriksen.
The deal for the young Englishman might be separate from Jadon Sancho’s proposed move to Chelsea, although a part-exchange deal might also be possible. Meanwhile, an update by Jacob Steinberg has suggested that West Ham United will unlikely land Chukwuemeka despite Tim Steidten’s admiration of the player.
Carney Chukwuemeka and his Chelsea struggles
Carney Chukwuemeka has endured a stop-start stint since joining Chelsea from Aston Villa in August 2022. The 20-year-old was among the most highly-rated young prospects in the Premier League when Chelsea beat stiff competition for his signature. However, the West London club’s infamous hoarding and a long-term injury have crowded him out of regular game time.
The English midfielder has managed only 616 minutes of game time across 27 appearances across all competitions. With Enzo Maresca having a bloated midfield unit, it is hardly surprising that Chukwuemeka does not have a bright future at Chelsea. However, there is no shortage of suitors pursuing his signature, with West Ham United and Manchester United keen on signing him.
A man in demand
West Ham United’s interest in Carney Chukwuemeka is understandable. While the Hammers are closing in on signing Carlos Soler from Paris Saint-Germain, they want another midfield arrival before Friday’s summer transfer deadline. So, the Chelsea midfield prospect emerged as a viable target. However, West Ham will unlikely land the youngster despite Tim Steidten’s admiration of the player.
As for Manchester United, the Red Devils are on the verge of signing Manuel Ugarte from Paris Saint-Germain. However, with Christian Eriksen facing an uncertain future at Old Trafford, Manchester United can do with another midfielder. So, Chukwuemeka is an option worth considering, with the Premier League heavyweights exploring a late move for the Englishman.
The initial talks have not progressed yet. However, Manchester United must step up if they want to sign the 20-year-old English midfielder, considering the summer transfer window closes in eight hours.
