Manchester United in constant talks to sign Ederson, Atalanta want to block sale

Aston Villa and Manchester United might have faint hopes of signing Ederson from Atalanta, with La Dea uninterested in selling the Brazilian international this summer.

According to a report by Spanish outlet AS, Ederson is the subject of interest from Manchester United. The Atalanta midfielder is also a target for Aston Villa, although the Red Devils have been in constant talks to sign him in the summer transfer window. However, La Dea will look to block the Brazilian’s exit, even though the asking price of €60 million might not be prohibitive.

Ederson and his Atalanta journey so far

Ederson has established himself as one of the best midfielders in Serie A since joining Atalanta from Salernitana in July 2022. The South American midfielder has not been in Europe for a long time but has taken to life in Italy like a fish to water.

The 25-year-old has turned out nearly 100 times thus far for Atalanta while chipping in with eight goals and two assists. Ederson’s exploits were instrumental in La Dea winning the UEFA Europa League title last season and guiding the Italian club to the UEFA Champions League.

Meanwhile, Ederson’s progress has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several high-profile clubs across Europe. They also helped him earn a call-up to the Brazilian national squad for the 2024 Copa America. Meanwhile, Manchester United and Aston Villa are his prospective suitors in the final weeks of the summer transfer window.

Premier League move on the horizon?

Manchester United’s interest in Ederson is understandable. The Red Devils are desperate to sign a holding midfielder before the summer transfer window shuts down. Manuel Ugarte has been Manchester United’s top target. However, the talks regarding the Uruguayan international have not progressed well. So, they have set their sights on the Atalanta midfielder and have been “in constant talks” to land him.

As for Aston Villa, they are eager to bolster their midfield unit before the summer transfer window shuts down. However, the Villans are yet to intensify their efforts to sign the Brazilian international. In addition, Atalanta’s reluctance to sell the player has dealt a blow to Manchester United and Atalanta.

The two Premier League clubs might not have had any issues coughing up €60 million to secure Ederson’s services in the summer transfer window. However, it will be interesting to see if Aston Villa and Manchester United can turn the player’s head and bring the 25-year-old to England.
