Chelsea attacker Cole Palmer has agreed on a new nine-year deal with the club, and he ended up rejecting Barcelona and Real Madrid in the process.
According to a report by Graeme Bailey on HITC, Cole Palmer was a target for the two Spanish clubs and they were keen on securing his signature. However, he snubbed both clubs in order to sign a new contract with the Premier League giants.
Palmer joined Chelsea from Manchester City last summer, and he was exceptional for them throughout the 2023/24 season. He was undoubtedly the best player at the club last season, and Chelsea cannot afford to lose him anytime soon.
The Englishman has a contract with them until 2033, and the Blues will be delighted that the player has committed his long-term future to the club. Meanwhile, Cole Palmer scored 27 goals in all competitions last season, and he picked up 15 assists along the way as well.
The England international is versatile enough to operate as the central attacking midfielder, a right sided winger as well as a centre forward. His versatility and quality in the final third makes him an indispensable asset, and it is no surprise that the two Spanish outfits were keen on signing him.
Cole Palmer would have improved Barcelona and Real Madrid
Barcelona need more attacking quality in the final third, and Palmer would have been exceptional acquisition. The youngster is still only 22, and he could have improved further with coaching and experience. Meanwhile, Real Madrid could use a quality attacker like Palmer to complete their attacking unit alongside Vinicius Jr, Kylian Mbappe and Rodrygo Goes.
It is quite difficult to turn down clubs like Real Madrid and Barcelona. So, Chelsea will be delighted with the show of commitment from the player. Cole Palmer will look to continue his development with regular football next season, and it remains to be seen whether he can help them push for major trophies.
The England international excelled in all competitions, and he will look to build on that and establish himself as one of the best players in the Premier League now. The Chelsea fans will be delighted that they have managed to keep a key player like him at the club despite advances from European heavyweights.
Chelsea will look to bounce back strongly next season and push for trophies. They need to hold on to their best players in order for that to happen. Keeping Cole Palmer at the club at the expense of Barcelona and Real Madrid will be a huge boost for them.
