Hansi Flick’s Barcelona have held talks with Chelsea for the services of their 20-year-old midfield prospect Carney Chukwuemeka.
According to a report by SPORT via Sport Witness, Chelsea’s Carney Chukwuemeka could join Barcelona before the end of the transfer window. The English midfield sensation is open to a move to the Catalan club, who have held talks with the Blues as well as the player’s agent regarding a potential transfer.
Chukwuemeka came up the ranks at Aston Villa and was promoted to their first team in the summer of 2021. On the back of his impressive rise, Chelsea acquired his services in the summer of 2022. But, the 20-year-old midfielder has not had much game time since making the move to Stamford Bridge.
He was involved in 15 matches in his debut campaign but was on the pitch for less than 400 minutes. Last season, he struggled with injuries and could only feature in 12 games. While he still has four years left on his deal at the club, Chukwuemeka seems keen on a move away in search of regular first-team action. Recent reports have also linked him with AC Milan.
Barcelona keen on Chukwuemeka’s services
While he has not had much game time at the West London club, Barcelona still seem keen on his services. The Catalan giants want to add more depth to their midfield. They have already made a move to sign him as they have held talks with Chelsea as well as the player’s representatives to learn more about a potential deal.
The Premier League giants want to retain his services. But the English youth international is keen on joining Barcelona as he feels he won’t have an important role at Stamford Bridge under Enzo Maresca. The Blaugrana have put the Chukwuemeka deal on hold as Hansi Flick is quite impressed by the performances of Marc Casado and Marc Bernal during pre-season.
The duo could be handed an important role in their first team, which is why Flick is not keen on signing a new midfielder. The Chelsea prospect is waiting for the Spanish giants to make a move. But that seems unlikely to happen unless they are forced to make a move following an injury or an exit late on in the window.
