Manchester United have held positive talks with Bayern Munich as they look to complete the signing of Matthijs de Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui.
According to a report from Florian Plettenberg, Bayern Munich defensive duo Matthijs de Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui will most likely complete their move to Manchester United in August. The Red Devils have held positive talks with the German club, and they have made progress towards signing the former Ajax defenders.
The Red Devils are looking to reinforce their backline before the end of the transfer window. Injuries to key defenders caused a lot of problems to Erik ten Hag’s team last season, and they want to ensure they have enough depth this time around.
Manchester United pushing for Matthijs de Ligt
While Manchester United added Leny Yoro to their ranks following the departure of Raphael Varane, Erik ten Hag wants to have another world-class centre-back in the mix. He wants to reunite with Matthijs de Ligt, who was the skipper of his Ajax team back in the day.
The Bayern Munich centre-back has enjoyed a lot of success under Ten Hag, and he has his heart set on a move to Old Trafford. Things might not have worked out for the 24-year-old since leaving Ajax. But he can surely bounce back given the amount of talent he has and could prove to be a great acquisition for the Red Devils.
Mazraoui to join the Red Devils?
Erik ten Hag is also looking for an upgrade at right-back. Aaron Wan-Bissaka is no longer a part of the Dutch manager’s plans and with his contract running out, they are looking to sanction his departure amid his West Ham United links. Manchester United are looking to bring in Noussair Mazraoui to replace the former Crystal Palace full-back.
Mazraoui has also played under Ten Hag during his time at Ajax. The Dutch manager is well aware of his capabilities and feels he could compete with Diogo Dalot for a place in the starting XI. While the Moroccan and the Dutch international are both surplus to requirements at Bayern and are keen on a move to Old Trafford, Die Roten want a significant fee from their sale.
Despite Bayern’s demands, Plettenberg believes a double transfer will be completed and that Matthijs de Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui will join Manchester United in August if everything goes according to plan.
The Red Devils have held positive talks with Bayern, who are ready to sell and negotiations are ongoing as both parties look to reach a common ground. While a deal has not been struck yet, significant progress has been made which is a great sign.
