Manchester United might withdraw from the race for Bayern Munich’s Matthijs de Ligt as they refuse to meet the Bundesliga club’s demands.
According to a report from GIVEMESPORT, Manchester United could take a back seat in the race for the services of Matthijs de Ligt. The Red Devils have no intention of meeting Bayern Munich’s demands, and they are threatening to walk away from negotiations despite being determined to sign the former Ajax skipper.
De Ligt was already a star as a teenager thanks to his exceptional rise at Ajax and his performances for their first team. Unfortunately, the big-money move to Juventus did not go according to plan for him, and things have not been that great at Bayern either.
Since joining the Bundesliga giants in the summer of 2022, Matthijs de Ligt has been an important part of their first team. But he has not been able to live up to their expectations. Despite having three years left on his deal, Bayern’s new boss Vincent Kompany does not count on him for the long run.
With the 24-year-old no longer a part of Bayern Munich’s plans, they have decided to sanction his departure. Manchester United have been the leading candidate for his services right from the start.
Manchester United pushing to sign Mathijs de Ligt
The Red Devils struggled last season because of injuries at the back. They are keen on reinforcing their defence and have already added Leny Yoro to their ranks following the departure of Raphael Varane.
But, Erik ten Hag is keen on bringing in another central defender, and he wants to reunite with Matthijs de Ligt, who has the skipper of his Ajax team that had a famous run in the Champions League back in the day.
Ten Hag feels de Ligt could help their cause, and Manchester United have been working on a deal to sign him for some time. The Red Devils recently made a double offer for the Dutch international and Noussair Mazraoui. While they considered it to be an ideal offer, Bayern turned it down.
ManchesterUnited won’t meet Bayern Munich’s demands for de Ligt
The Bundesliga giants want around £43 million for the services of Matthijs de Ligt. But, the Red Devils value him at just £30 million. They have no intention of meeting Bayern’s demands and are seriously considering ending the discussion over a move for de Ligt.
Bayern Munich were confident that Manchester United would edge close to their demands this week. But, the English club’s stance seems quite clear. They are not going to present an improved offer as they have no external pressure.
There are no other clubs in the picture with the player wanting to move to Old Trafford. He already has a verbal agreement to join Manchester United and is seeking a contract of around £200,000-per-week.
