West Ham United will reportedly look to sign 21-year-old Spanish full-back Arnau Martinez from high-flying La Liga club Girona this summer.
According to a report by Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo, Arnau Martinez is the subject of interest from West Ham United. The Hammers have been scouring the market for a right-back throughout the summer transfer window and have set their sights on the Girona full-back. In addition, they have contacted the Spanish defender’s representatives.
The rise of Arnau Martinez
Arnau Martinez has come leaps and bounds since breaking into the first-team squad at Girona FC. A native of Premià de Dalt, the Spaniard spent his formative years with four clubs, including Barcelona, before graduating from the youth division at Girona FC a few years ago.
The 21-year-old made his first-team bow for Girona in December 2020 and has been a regular for the senior side since then. Martinez has turned out 123 times thus far for the Catalan outfit while chipping in with six goals and 15 assists. However, the player faces an uncertain future at Estadi Montilivi after entering the final 12 months of his contract.
Meanwhile, Arnau Martinez’s situation has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several high-profile outfit across Europe. So, the Spanish full-back might leave the high-flying La Liga club soon, with West Ham United joining the race to secure his services in the summer transfer window.
London calling?
West Ham United’s interest in Arnau Martinez is understandable. The Hammers have been keen on signing a right-back in the summer transfer window after losing Ben Johnson as a free agent. So, several candidates, including Aaron Wan-Bissaka, have emerged on West Ham United’s radar.
However, Martinez is also a viable target, with West Ham ready to approach Girona regarding a late summer move. They have also contacted the Spanish full-back’s entourage as they look to intensify their efforts to secure his services in the coming weeks.
It is unclear if the 21-year-old Spaniard is open to leaving the high-flying La Liga club to join West Ham before the summer transfer window shuts down. The East London club will hope to convince Martinez before approaching Girona for talks.
