Manchester United might offer a contract with £100,000-a-week wages to Burnley midfielder Sander Berge, who will cost around £30 million this summer.
According to a report by The Sun, Sander Berge is the subject of interest from Manchester United. The Red Devils are scouring the market for a holding midfielder and have set their sights on the Burnley man. They are mulling over offering a contract with £100,000-a-week wages to the Norwegian midfielder, while the Clarets are demanding around £30 million to part ways with him.
Sander Berge and his journey in England so far
Sander Berge was once among the most highly-rated young midfielders in Europe before arriving in England. So, it was surprising when he joined Sheffield United from KRC Genk in January 2020. While he was hot off the blocks at Bramall Lane, injuries and fitness issues plagued his spell with the Blades.
In addition, Berge spending his career in England thus far with Sheffield United and Burnley has meant that he has struggled to fulfil his tremendous potential. Speaking of Burnley, the 26-year-old joined the Clarets from Sheffield United last summer, and he has turned out 40 times for them while chipping in with two goals and two assists.
However, Burnley’s relegation to the EFL Championship means Sander Berge’s short spell with them might end after only one year. The Norwegian international does not have a shortage of suitors pursuing his signature, with Manchester United among the interested clubs in the final weeks of the summer transfer window.
Will Berge join Manchester United soon?
Manchester United’s interest in Sander Berge is understandable. The Red Devils have been keen on signing a holding midfielder in the summer transfer window after Casemiro blew hot and cold last season. However, they have struggled to fulfil that objective, with their primary target, Manuel Ugarte, no closer to arriving at Old Trafford.
So, Manchester United have set their sights on alternatives, with Berge emerging as a viable target. The latest update has revealed that the Premier League heavyweights might soon offer the 26-year-old a contract with £100,000-a-week wages to sign him from Burnley this summer.
Meanwhile, the Clarets want around £30 million to part ways with the Norwegian international in this summer’s transfer window. It will be interesting to see if a contract with £100,000-a-week wages tempts Berge to join Manchester United from Burnley.
