According to a report from HITC, Newcastle United have secured the services of Irish midfielder sensation Rory Finneran. They have managed to fend off competition from Liverpool and Manchester United to sign the teenager, who seems destined for greatness.
Finneran came up the ranks at Blackburn Rovers at some pace. While he was yet to be promoted to their first team, the teenager became their youngster ever debutant at the age of 15 years, 10 months and eight days when he was brought on as a substitute in an FA Cup game at the start of the year.
Manchester United and Liverpool wanted to sign Finneran
The teenager has been a consistent performer for both club and country at the youth level, and his work has not gone unnoticed. His impressive rise at Blackburn has attracted a lot of interest from across Europe. Manchester United and Liverpool are two English giants who were keen on signing Finneran.
Both English clubs are always on the lookout for opportunities to sign young players with huge potential, those who can help them in the long run. And the 16-year-old defensive midfielder surely has it in him to be a star in years to come.
Newcastle United win the race for Rory Finneran
The Reds as well as the Red Devils were in talks with the player’s agent regarding a move. But they have lost out to Newcastle United, who have sealed the signing of the Irish sensation. The Magpies were in talks with the player as well as his camp for months, and they have finally managed to get the deal over the line.
He seems more attracted to the long-term project at the Tyneside club that aims to establish Newcastle United as one of the powerhouses in football. They have already added quite a few young stars to their team and Finneran is another exceptional signing for them.
While he will start with the Newcastle Under-21s, given his huge potential and his recent performances, it won’t be a surprise to see him play for the first team in the near future. Finneran prefers playing as a defensive midfielder. But he is well capable enough to feature anywhere on the pitch something that could help the Magpies in the long run.
