Chelsea in talks to sign Mike Penders, ready to loan him back to seal deal

Chelsea have opened talks with Genk for their young No.1 Mike Penders, as the keeper could be loaned back to the Belgian side.

According to Belgian outlet HLN, Chelsea are in talks to sign 2005-born Belgian prodigy Mike Penders from Genk. The report talks about an imminent agreement on the horizon between the two sides, with the Blues ready to loan the keeper back to Genk to aid his development.

Chelsea set to sign Mike Penders?

In what has been another summer spree for Chelsea in signing young, talented stars, they might continue their quest to bring such players until the window shuts. It has been interesting from Chelsea’s perspective that they are showing relentless form in their pursuit of unproven talent as they continue on the quest to build a super team for the future.

While they are looking at different players, Chelsea may have come across a young keeper in Mike Penders. The 2005-born Belgian prodigy recently started the season for Genk as their No.1 and has already been approached by the Blues to sign up for them.

Genk are open to a sale, with the report stating talks are ongoing between the two clubs for a move over €10 million. Chelsea are willing to loan him back to Genk. However, the duration of that spell remains to be clarified, as the story also points towards a potential two-year spell there, something the Belgian side agreed for their former keeper and Penders’s predecessor, Maarten Vandevoordt, to RB Leipzig.

They also claim that while Vandervoort was sold for €10 million, Penders will be much higher than that fee. As Chelsea close in on an agreement, it does show the Blues are serious about their future project and are willing to invest heavily in players that are unpolished but carry a high ceiling.

Chelsea also focused on the present situation

While Chelsea continue to bring players good enough for future sides, they are also focused on improving their current situation. They are aiming to better last season’s sixth-placed finish in the Premier League and have already recruited some key players. The Blues were also looking for a new keeper and have agreed to a deal with Filip Jorgensen from Villarreal.

Elsewhere, they are keen on bringing a new striker and a winger before the window shuts. As for their current goalkeeping situation, the addition of Jorgensen might spell the end for Djorde Petrovic at Stamford Bridge.
