Manchester City set for showdown talks with Ederson

Manchester City are set to hold crunch talks with Ederson over his future as the keeper considers a huge offer from the Saudi Pro League.

According to Football Insider, Manchester City are about to hold crunch talks with Ederson amid the Saudi Pro League’s interest in the keeper. The Brazilian star has become a key component of Pep Guardiola’s team, as the stopper now weighs up a massive offer from the Saudi Pro League, with at least two sides keen.

Ederson situation explained

Some players often reach a saturation point amid tremendous success, and that might be the case with Ederson at Manchester City. Having played more than 330 games in the seven years he has been at the club since making the move from Benfica in 2017, the Brazilian has won the Premier League six times and the Champions League once, in addition to many more domestic titles.

The 30-year-old is now weighing up a massive offer from the Saudi Pro League and might be eager to move to the Middle Eastern league. Al-Nassr had an agreement on personal terms with Ederson, with some credible reports suggesting he was made an offer that would make the Brazilian the highest-paid player in the world.

Now the integrity of those numbers are still questionable, although there’s no doubt the Saudis are flexing their financial muscle to get one of the best stoppers of the game. As Manchester City rejected Al-Nassr’s bid, the Saudi side abandoned the chase, which gave the Premier League side hope, as they were willing to make an offer of a new contract to the keeper

Al-Ittihad has entered the chase, putting the Saudi pursuit back on track. Al-Ittihad may have made a huge contract offer for the keeper, leaving the Brazilian weighing up his options ahead of the new season, although Manchester City are not keen on letting him go without a fight.

Manchester City to hold Ederson talks

Pep Guardiola recently confirmed that Kevin De Bruyne will not leave the club amid heavy links to the Saudi Pro League. However, he might not have given any assurances about Ederson, which has somewhat indicated that the Brazilian might depart. Either way, the club is eager to hold crunch talks with the keeper about his future and might make him a good contract offer.

Losing Ederson will be a bitter blow for Guardiola right at the beginning of the new season, as the player is vital to the manager’s plans. While Stefan Ortega seems like an able deputy, Manchester City are likely to look for another No.1, which will be a big task in itself.
