Arsenal, Chelsea identify Nico Williams as priority target

Arsenal and Chelsea are prioritising a move for Nico Williams despite Barcelona being the clear favourites for the winger.

According to Sport via Sport Witness, Chelsea and Arsenal are very much in the chase for Nico Williams despite the big threat posed by Barcelona in this pursuit. The Catalans’ finances are still questionable, whereas the English giants are extremely strong in that aspect.

Arsenal Chelsea prioritising Nico Willams

Nico Williams has the potential to become the biggest transfer story of this summer, with a host of top clubs participating in a heavyweight chase. The Spanish winger had a terrific season with Athletic Club and then helped his national side win the Euros in Germany, beating Enbgland in the Final in Berlin.

Williams has a €58 million release clause, and hence, clubs are extremely keen to sign him, while Athletic Club is not eager to negotiate a deal. Hence, some English sides like Arsenal and Chelsea are keen to sign him, although Barcelona’s big complication prevents them from making a concrete approach.

Chelsea and Arsenal have the financial means, and the player suits their styles perfectly. Williams will certainly thrive at either side, although he reportedly prefers a switch to Barcelona. The London giants have not bowed out of the race and have no plans to, as Arsenal and Chelsea could now prioritise the signing of the €58 million-rated winger.

The delay from Barcelona in concluding this deal could be a significant factor, but the Manchester United-Leny Yoro saga might have opened different doors. Despite Real Madrid wanting him, the Red Devils took full advantage of the situation and made the move for the Frenchman. Arsenal and Chelsea will think the same can be done with the Williams pursuit.

Will Barcelona beat Premier League sides for Williams

Barcelona have reiterated claims that they have the financial means to conclude the Williams singing. Then there are questions about whether they can pay the required wages that suffice the player’s demands. With their financial standing already in significant doubt, clubs are lurking around to see whether they come through for Williams.

Meanwhile, any delays from Barcelona’s side could open the gates for Arsenal and Chelsea, two clubs with financial might to take advantage and get a deal in place for Williams. As it does seem like a heavyweight fight for Williams, time could be of the essence as English sides are ready to make their moves for the winger.
