Arsenal have not given up hope to sign Harrison Miles

Arsenal are still in the race for Southampton wonderkid Harrison Miles, with Manchester City in pole position for the 15-year-old.

According to Football Insider, Arsenal believe they are still in the race to sign Harrison Miles despite rivals Manchester City grabbing pole position for the youngster. Southampton are resigned to losing the 15-year-old English wonderkid to one of the Premier League giants, with the teenager set to make a big career decision.

The Harrison Miles situation

Harrison Miles is already considered one of the prodigious talents emerging from Southampton’s famed academy. The 15-year-old English wonderkid has excelled with the Under-18s team and was widely expected to make the grade into the Under-21s sooner rather than later and play a level of senior football.

The Saints have produced some top talents over the years, and Miles is in that same bracket. The club might have wanted to keep hold of him and aid his development in the next few years. However, the 15-year-old English wonderkid has exercised his option of leaving the club, which has brought forward some top suitors.

Manchester City are in pole position for Miles, as they see this signing as a big statement in the academy market. The Cityzens are the big leaders in that specific market and are looking at many other talents besides Miles.

For some days now, Manchester City have been considered the destination where Miles would join, although the 15-year-old English wonderkid has been left to decide between them and Arsenal now. The Gunners are still in the thick of the race and have made an offer for the youngster to consider.

Arsenal in Harrison Miles race

In the last two years, Arsenal and Manchester City have competed for Premier League supremacy, and they could now open up a battle on a new front. Guardiola’s side was one of the two clubs alongside Chelsea to have a separate budget for their academy. The Gunners now have their own plan to improve their youth squad, becoming only the third English side to do so.

Hence, Arsenal are expected to compete for the best talents from around. Armed with a good enough budget to sign some top academy talents, it is no surprise that they are battling Manchester City for Miles. This leaves the 15-year-old with a big decision to make regarding his future.
