Rodri set for bumper new contract offer from Manchester City

Manchester City are set to hand Rodri a new bumper deal with a significant pay rise to secure his long-term future at the Etihad.

According to Give Me Sport, Rodri is set to receive a bumper new offer from Manchester City once he returns from the Euros. The midfielder has been a sensational presence for the club since his arrival, with the 53-cap Spanish international set to enter the top earner’s bracket with this new deal.

New Manchester City contract for Rodri?

If there is a player who epitomises Manchester City’s top-rated top-rated performances and astute transfer business, it has to be Rodri. The Spaniard has been a sensational presence for Pep Guardiola’s midfield, his constant availability and terrific displays propelling the club to new heights over the last many seasons.

The 53-cap Spanish international even held a long-term record of not losing a game in regulation time for Manchester City between the 2022/23 and 2023/24 campaigns, with the FA Cup final loss his first in a long time.

Guardiola considers him an important part of his system, and the club will not entertain any offers for the 28-year-old. In fact, Manchester City are set to hand Rodri a bumper new deal once he returns from Euro 2024.

Rodri still has three years left on his deal, which earns the midfielder a reported £220,000 per week in wages. Yet, Manchester City has been keen to tie him down on fresh terms and reward him for his exceptional performance in the club since arriving from Atletico Madrid. With the new contract, Rodri could enter the top bracket for earners at the club, which currently includes the likes of Kevin De Bruyne and Erling Haaland.

Rodri is key to Manchester City’s plans

There is a certain guarantee that Guardiola will not entertain any bids coming in for Rodri, irrespective of how much money some might offer. Real Madrid loosely held an interest, but with the new contract, Manchester City will have more power over deciding the Spaniard’s immediate and long-term future.

Rodri is key to Guardtiola’s plans ahead of the new season, which many reportedly consider could be the Catalan manager’s last. He will want the midfielder to have another astute season, as Manchester City aim to win a fifth straight Premier League title and reclaim the Champions League crown.
