Arsenal have discussions to sign Johan Bakayoko

Premier League heavyweights Arsenal have reportedly held talks to sign PSV Eindhoven winger Johan Bakayoko, a target for Chelsea and Liverpool.

According to a report by Caught Offside, Johan Bakayoko is the subject of interest from Arsenal. The Gunners are scouring the market for a wide attacker heading into the summer transfer window and have held talks to sign the PSV Eindhoven winger, valued at €55-60 million. Meanwhile, the Belgian international is also a target for Chelsea and Liverpool.

The rapid rise of Johan Bakayoko

Johan Bakayoko has gone from strength to strength since breaking into the first-team squad at PSV Eindhoven a few years ago. Now a regular for his club and country, the 21-year-old has become a regular for his club and country in the last 12 months.

The Belgian international was exceptional in the 2023/24 season as PSV Eindhoven cruised to the Eredivisie title. Bakayoko contributed to 28 goals in 48 appearances across all competitions by finding the back of the net 14 times while providing 14 assists. Meanwhile, the youngster’s progress has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of high-profile clubs like Arsenal, Chelsea, and Liverpool.

A man in demand

Arsenal recently joined the race to secure Johan Bakayoko’s services in the summer transfer window. Mikel Arteta wants two top-class options for every position in his squad, compelling the North London club to delve into the market for a wide attacker. Bakayoko has thus emerged as a viable target for Arsenal, with the Gunners holding talks to sign him.

Meanwhile, Chelsea’s interest in Johan Bakayoko is understandable. The Blues are scouring the market for a productive attacker after Raheem Sterling, Noni Madueke and Mykhailo Mudryk blew hot and cold in the 2023/24 season. The PSV Eindhoven winger is thus an option worth considering, even though his price tag of €55-60 million might be high.

As for Liverpool, the Reds are in a spot of bother over the long-term futures of Mohamed Salah and Luis Diaz. Even if the duo stays, Liverpool can do with a wide attacker like Bakayoko. However, it is unclear if the Merseyside giants are willing to cough up €55-60 million to secure his services.

With Arsenal holding talks to secure Johan Bakayoko’s services, Chelsea and Liverpool must step up their interest in him. It will be interesting to see if the three Premier League clubs are ready to fork out €55-60 million to sign the 21-year-old Belgian international in the summer transfer window.
