Arsenal keen on Johan Bakayoko

Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal are interested in signing Belgian attacking sensational Johan Bakayoko this summer.

According to Gazet van Antwerpen via SportWitness, Arsenal want to add more firepower to their ranks this summer and they are interested in the services of Johan Bakayoko who has had an impressive rise at PSV Eindhoven.

He made the move to the Netherlands back in 2019. He started with their Under-17 team and managed to break into the first team in three years. Since getting promoted in 2022, the young winger has already featured in 85 matches for the senior team.

Bakayoko had an exceptional season last time out as he helped PSV win the league title. He found the back of the net on 14 occasions and had as many assists in his 48 outings. While he is yet to play a part for Belgium at Euro 2024, his performances throughout the campaign were enough to attract interest from some of the biggest clubs in Europe.

Liverpool are one of the clubs that have been linked with the right-winger. With Mohamed Salah’s future at the Merseyside club uncertain, they are looking to bring in someone who can help replace the Egypt international in the long run. While the Reds are interested in signing the Belgian winger, Arsenal are the ones who seem to be in a better position at this stage.

Arsenal pushing for Bakayoko’s signature

They are reportedly on the ‘most concrete’ track to acquire the services of the 21-year-old. The Gunners want to add more quality to their squad after once again falling short in the Premier League title race. Mikel Arteta wants more bench strength, he wants to have a stronger rotation.

Arsenal have been looking for someone who can fit into Arteta’s system and feel Bakayoko could be an ideal signing for them. While they do have Bukayo Saka in their ranks, the Belgium winger could be an ideal cover for the English superstar.

While the North London club haven’t struck a deal with the player or his club, they are still believed to be in pole position to sign the PSV sensation.  The report suggests that things could evolve positively for the Gunners. They could make progress in bringing him to the Emirates.

With two years left on his deal, PSV are looking for €45 million to sanction his departure this summer. They are hopeful of cashing in on the 21-year-old this summer and with everything progressing well, he could end up being an Arsenal player soon.
