La Liga outfit Real Betis are reportedly expected to sign Liverpool goalkeeper Adrian in a Bosman move this summer.
According to a report from Daily Mail, La Liga outfit Real Betis are now close to finalising a deal to sign Liverpool goalkeeper Adrian, even though he was offered the opportunity to extend his contract with the Merseyside club.
Adrian is no longer a key part of Liverpool’s first-team plans. So, his impending departure is hardly a surprise. The Spanish goalkeeper will be hoping to play more often at this stage of his career, and he is unlikely to get those opportunities at Liverpool. A move back to his homeland would be ideal for him. He could be a useful squad player for Real Betis next season.
The 37-year-old goalkeeper has chosen to turn down a new contract at Liverpool, and it will be interesting to see if he can hold down a regular starting spot at Real Betis. The Spanish goalkeeper joined Liverpool back in 2019 on a free transfer, and he has been a useful player for them, even though he has not featured regularly.
Adrian needs to leave Liverpool this summer
Initially, he joined as the understudy to Alisson Becker. But the emergence of Caoimhin Kelleher has pushed him further down the pecking order. It makes sense for the Spaniard to move on this summer and join another club. It will be interesting to see if Liverpool decide to bring in a goalkeeper this summer.
Meanwhile, Kelleher has been linked with a move away from the club as well, and the Irish international is valued at £35 million. Liverpool cannot afford to head into the new season with just one goalkeeper that their disposal, and they will have to replace the likes of Adrian and Kelleher if both players move on.
Meanwhile, Adrian is in the twilight stages of his career, and he will look to enjoy his football now. A return to his homeland could not have been better timed. He has shown his quality in English football and he will look to make his mark at Real Betis now.
