Arne Slot seemingly approves of Liverpool’s potential move for winger Nico Williams, as a host of other clubs also chase the winger.
According to Caught Offside, Liverpool’s interest in Nico Williams could accelerate as new boss Arne Slot approves of the winger. The Reds are keen to strengthen their attacking setup this summer. In the race for the €50 million-rated Spaniard, they face massive competition from the likes of Arsenal, Chelsea and Barcelona.
Arne Slot likes Nico Williams
Nico Williams has enhanced his reputation with some of his performances at the Euros and was named Man of the Match against Italy. He forced the winning goal from Riccardo Calafiori and, overall, had a scintillating display on the pitch, coming inside from the left wing for most parts.
Liverpool are keen, and despite some doubts about the move, the Merseysiders are considered firm challengers for his signature. Arne Slot reportedly approves of any move for the Spanish winger, who has a €50 million release clause in his contract that has attracted many other clubs.
The Reds are not particularly short on wingers at the moment, but should a player like Williams become available, they might see this as a market opportunity they want to take advantage of. The form of Luis Dias has come under scrutiny alongside Cody Gakpo, with both players playing a similar role.
Should Williams arrive, he would potentially threaten Diaz’s place more than Gakpo, as the Dutchman also features centrally. Overall, Slot would likely see the attack improving with the Athletic Club winger on his side, although the operation to bring him to Anfield has its big challenges, namely due to the involvement of other rivals.
Chelsea, Barcelona and Arsenal are keen on Williams
Chelsea failed in their move for Michael Olise, and while Williams is not a like-for-like profile to the Frenchman, he still improves their attack. The Blues are keen but not as prominently in the race as Arsenal or Barcelona.
The Gunners are keen to land a new winger and are ready to step up their interest in Williams. The players do offer a style suitable to Mikel Arteta, but more so, his price point seems like a big attraction for all clubs keen on the winger.
Barcelona are willing to sell Raphinha to fund a move for Williams, as many sources suggest he might prefer a move to the Catalans. In any case, the winger’s €50 million-rated release clause does make any move straightforward on paper; his wage demands might still prove problematic for all clubs involved in the race.
