Arsenal, Manchester City vying for Andriy Lunin

Real Madrid goalkeeper Andriy Lunin is a target for Arsenal and Manchester City this summer amid uncertainties surrounding his future.

According to a report from the Spanish publication Sport, Arsenal and Manchester City are looking to make a move for 25-year-old Real Madrid goalkeeper Andriy Lunin this summer. The Ukrainian international enjoyed a breakthrough campaign at Real Madrid but still faces an uncertain future at the club.

Andriy Lunin has been linked with Manchester United as well. The goalkeeper is looking for regular game time, and he is unhappy with the role of a squad player at the Spanish club. He played regularly last season because of Thibaut Courtois’s injury. The Belgian international made just five appearances across all competitions and naturally, Lunin was the first-choice stopper.

It seems that the 25-year-old wants to play regularly in the upcoming season as well. However, it looks unlikely that he will be afforded that opportunity, especially with Courtois expected to return. It will be interesting to see if Real Madrid decide to sell the player permanently this summer.

Can Arsenal and Manchester City provide Lunin with a starting spot?

Manchester City and Arsenal are keen on securing his signature, and they will be exciting destination for the player. However, he is unlikely to be the first-choice goalkeeper at the two Premier League clubs either. Arsenal are looking to bring in a replacement for Aaron Ramsdale, who has lost his starting spot to David Raya.

At Manchester City, he would be a replacement for Ederson, who faces an uncertain future at the Etihad. Lunin needs to join a club where he will play regularly. Sitting on the bench at another club after leaving Real Madrid would be quite disappointing.

The report has mentioned Newcastle as a potential option as well. Apparently, Arsenal would be willing to offer €25 million for the player, and it remains to be seen how the situation develops. The Magpies might be able to provide him with regular game time. Lunin will certainly fancy his chances of dislodging Nick Pope from the starting lineup.

The 25-year-old goalkeeper is yet to enter his peak years, and he could improve with coaching and experience. He could prove to be a solid long term acquisition for most clubs. Signing a player of its quality for €25 million could prove to be a bargain as well. It remains to be seen whether Arsenal and Manchester City can convince the player to join them despite not being able to offer regular starting spot.
