Arsenal ready to go all out to sign Amadou Onana

Arsenal are expected to prioritise a move for Amadou Onana as their main midfield target, as they could accelerate their move for the Belgian.

According to Fichajes, Arsenal are ready to step up their chase of Amadou Onana, as Mikel Arteta might consider the Belgian his priority midfield target this summer. Everton are prepared to sell the midfielder, which could push the Gunners into making a concerted effort to discuss terms about a move.

Arsenal prioritising Amadou Onana’s move

For months now, many have speculated on what style of midfielder Mikel Arteta would want to improve his Arsenal side in the summer. The suggestion was that the manager felt Declan Rice would be more suited to a left-eight role, meaning he would then bring in another defensive midfielder who could potentially see someone like Thomas Partey leave.

Even with the Ghanaian, they ought to be a bit short of another player in that middle zone, meaning Arteta might prioritise a defensive midfielder at all costs. Arsenal have reportedly been in touch about Amadou Onana, and as per recent reports, the Belgian appears to be Arteta’s priority target for that midfield area.

With Everton ready to sell the Belgian for the right price, Onana’s representatives have been in touch with Arsenal and other clubs over a move. The Toffees are eager for a big sale or two to ease through their issues with PSR regulations, as the Gunners are now ready to go all out on the Belgian’s pursuit.

The Gunners might accelerate talks in the background with agents and, more importantly, Everton. Some news on the Toffees’ asking price might come out imminently, although the Gunners would be prepared to pay fair value for one of their key targets this summer.

Onana chased by Barcelona, Manchester United?

Manchester United are keen on a midfield powerhouse like Onana and could look at the possibility of landing the Everton man. Their issue right now would point towards offloading Casemiro before thinking about this new midfield signing, which does give rivals like Arsenal the impetus. Now, the Gunners face a new threat in the pursuit, as Aston Villa are keen on Onana, with Unai Emery looking at the Belgian to replace Douglas Luiz.

Barcelona held an interest during Xavi Hernandez’s time at the club, and the report does suggest they might not actively pursue Onana for new boss Hansi Flick. The Catalans are expected to keep close tabs, but the next destination for the 22-year-old appears to be within the Premier League.
