Aston Villa are looking at Famalicao goalkeeper Luiz Junior as a competitor for Emi Martinez as Unai Emery looks to strengthen all positions.
According to Portuguese outlet Mais Futebol, Aston Villa are interested in Famalicao goalkeeper Luiz Junior; there’s talk of a €10 million deal with Portuguese club Famalicao with add-ons worth €2 million likely to conclude this deal, as Unai Emery seeks competition for the goalkeeping position ahead of a busy season.
Aston Villa in Luiz Junior chase
Ason Villa is contemplating many changes to their squad ahead of the season as Unai Emery readies a team that could sustain the heavy domestic season as well as their campaign in the Champions League. The Spanish manager envisages some changes and additions to the side, as adding depth is one of the issues the club faces during this window.
They are intent on strengthening multiple positions and have set sights on a new goalkeeper to compete with Emi Martinez in the new season. Emery may not have plans to demote the World Cup-winning Argentine star but to help him build momentum through competition, which could see the end of Robin Olsen.
Olsen has been decent when called upon, but Villa has been vulnerable with the Swede on the side. Hence, should there be a time when Emery has to rotate his No.1, then he wishes to have a formidable No.2 in his ranks who has plenty of energy and experience. Hence, they are linked with Luiz Junior of Portuguese Liga side Famalicao, as he helped them to a ninth-placed finish last season.
He’s someone with decent experience and comes from a crop of brilliant Brazilian goalkeeping talents, as Villa is keen to snap him up now. The report talks about a potential valuation of €10 million plus another €2 million in add-ons, as such a bid or something close to this might do the trick in concluding the deal with Famalicao.
Aston Villa’s other goalkeeper targets
Apart from the €12 million-rated Brazilian, Aston Villa have a few other names for their goalkeeping position on their list. For starters, Las Palmas custodian Alvaro Valles is a target for them, as Emery likes his style and the experience he carries with the La Liga side.
Then there’s another La Liga goalkeeper, Predrag Rajkovic, who is part of the Serbian squad at the Euros and could have an impressive campaign with his national side in Germany. There might be a few more names on the list of Villa’s transfer department, but so far, the club is actively seeking a new goalkeeper to compete with Martinez ahead of the new season.
