Arsenal and Aston Villa are reportedly interested in signing 26-year-old Spanish goalkeeper Alvaro Valles from La Liga club Las Palmas.

According to a report by Spanish journalist Alonso Rivero, Alvaro Valles is the subject of interest from Arsenal and Aston Villa. The 26-year-old goalkeeper’s exploits with La Liga club UD Las Palmas have piqued the attention of several high-profile clubs, and a move to the Premier League might be on the cards.

Who is Alvaro Valles?

Alvaro Valles has established himself as one of the best goalkeepers in La Liga this season. A native of La Rinconada, the 26-year-old graduated from the youth division at Real Betis. But he found stability at the first-team level after joining UD Las Palmas from Los Verdiblancos in July 2018.

Since then, he has come leaps and bounds, becoming a pivotal figure for Los Amarillos. The Spaniard has enjoyed an excellent 2023/24 campaign, conceding only 31 goals in 28 appearances in La Liga, keeping seven clean sheets. Meanwhile, Valles’s progress at the Gran Canarian club has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several high-profile clubs.

Many La Liga bigwigs, including Real Madrid, have shown interest in the Spanish goalkeeper. But a move to the Premier League might be on the cards, with the report by Alonso River claiming Arsenal and Aston Villa are interested in signing the UD Las Palmas shot-stopper in the summer transfer window.

Premier League Move on the Cards?

Arsenal’s interest in Alvaro Valles is understandable. The North London club will likely part ways with Aaron Ramsdale in the summer transfer window. The English international is eager to leave Arsenal to embark on a new challenge. So, the Gunners need a replacement for Ramsdale, with several candidates, including Diant Ramaj, emerging on their radar. But Valles is also a viable target.

As for Aston Villa, Unai Emery has two goalkeepers aged over 30 in his squad. So, with Robin Olsen approaching the final phase of his career, Aston Villa can do with a new goalkeeper. Valles is thus an option worth considering for the West Midlands club.

Apart from Arsenal and Aston Villa, Valles is also a target for his former club Real Betis. But it is unclear if Las Palmas will be open to parting ways with the 26-year-old goalkeeper in the summer transfer window.
