Julian Alvarez prefers Real Madrid move amid Chelsea links

Real Madrid will reportedly have an advantage over Chelsea in the race to sign Julian Alvarez, who wants to join Los Blancos when he leaves Manchester City.

According to a report by The Athletic, Julian Alvarez is the subject of interest from Chelsea. The Blues are scouring the market for a striker heading into the summer transfer window. However, the Manchester City striker will prefer to join Real Madrid instead of the West London club when he leaves the Premier League champions.

The rise and rise of Julian Alvarez

Julian Alvarez has established himself as one of the best young prospects in the Premier League since arriving from River Plate in 2022. The Argentine international also played his part as La Albiceleste won the 2022 FIFA World Cup and is a regular for his club and country.

The 24-year-old enjoyed an excellent 2023/24 campaign, amassing 19 goals and 13 assists in 54 appearances across all competitions. Meanwhile, Alvarez’s exploits have not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several high-profile clubs across Europe, including Chelsea and Real Madrid.

Chelsea will delve into the market for a striker heading into the summer transfer window. Nicolas Jackson blew hot and cold throughout the 2023/24 campaign, compelling the West London club to scour the market for a better alternative. Several candidates have thus emerged on Chelsea’s radar.

A man in demand

Julian Alvarez has thus emerged as a viable target for the Premier League heavyweights. The 24-year-old attacker can be a long-term solution for Chelsea in the final third. However, the report by The Athletic has claimed that he would prefer moving to Real Madrid instead of joining Chelsea.

However, Real Madrid will unlikely launch the offensive to sign the Manchester City striker after securing the services of Kylian Mbappe. A move was never going to see the light of day anyway, with Alvarez happy and content at the Etihad, with a summer departure not on the cards.

So, Chelsea must look elsewhere for a reliable striker, while Real Madrid will unlikely sign an attacker in the summer transfer window. The World Cup winner will remain at Manchester City heading into the 2024/25 season.
