Chelsea contemplate re-signing Dominic Solanke this summer

Premier League heavyweights Chelsea are reportedly considering re-signing Dominic Solanke from Bournemouth in the summer transfer window.

According to a report by Graeme Bailey on HITC, Dominic Solanke is the subject of interest from Chelsea. The Blues are mulling over re-signing the 26-year-old striker in the summer transfer window. Meanwhile, the Bournemouth talisman has a release clause worth £65 million in his contract, and only the ‘Big Six’ clubs can trigger it.

The Dominic Solanke renaissance

Dominic Solanke has been instrumental in Bournemouth becoming mainstays in the Premier League since returning from the EFL Championship. The Englishman was a highly-rated prospect during his time in Chelsea’s fabled academy several years ago. And Liverpool had seemingly struck a coup when they signed him for free in July 2017.

However, the 26-year-old was a dud for the Merseyside club, joining Bournemouth after a horrendous 18 months at Anfield. The move to the Vitality Stadium has transformed Solanke’s career as he has gradually grown in confidence to become a talisman for the club.

The English striker enjoyed a career-best campaign in the 2023/24 season, amassing 21 goals and four assists in 42 appearances across all competitions. Solanke’s exploits helped Bournemouth come close to breaching the top half of the Premier League table. Meanwhile, his progress has not gone unnoticed, alerting several high-profile clubs, including Chelsea.

Summer homecoming on the horizon?

Recent reports have linked the Bournemouth striker with a move to London, with Arsenal, Tottenham, and West Ham United showing interest in him. However, the London return might happen with Chelsea, with the West London club joining the race to sign Dominic Solanke.

Chelsea’s interest in Solanke is understandable, considering the move for Benjamin Sesko has gone caput. In addition, the Blues are not ready to trigger Victor Osimhen’s release clause. So, the Bournemouth striker has emerged as a viable target, with Chelsea submitting an enquiry for him. However, the Englishman will not come cheap either.

Solanke has a conditional release clause worth £65 million in his contract with Bournemouth. Only the ‘Big Six’ clubs can trigger it to secure his services in the summer transfer window. However, it is unclear if Chelsea will cough up £65 million to re-sign the 26-year-old English striker in the summer transfer window.
