Manchester City ready to cash in on Matheus Nunes

Manchester City are ready to sanction the departure of Matheus Nunes just a year after signing him from Wolves.

According to a report from TBR Football, Matheus Nunes has failed to reach the expected levels at Manchester City following his arrival from Wolverhampton Wanderers last summer. The Portuguese midfielder has not been able break to into Pep Guardiola’s first team, and Manchester City are ready to offload him as they look to rebuild their midfield.

Nunes had an impressive rise at Sporting CP before he made the move to England by joining Wolves. It did not take him long to adjust to the English top flight. His consistent performances and versatility resulted in a lot of interest. Champions Manchester City managed to win the race for his services.

Nunes’s stay at City to end in 12 months?

Manchester City forked out a significant fee to sign Nunes. The Portuguese international was brought in with a lot of expectations but he has failed to live up to them. While he has been involved in 31 matches, the 25-year-old has been on the pitch for just over 1,500 minutes and only has five assists to his name.

Nunes has not been able to convince Guardiola that he is the right man for the job. His future at the club is uncertain as City are gearing up for an important transfer window where they will look to rebuild their midfield.

Their biggest concern at this point in time is the future of their star duo Bernardo Silva and Kevin De Bruyne. Silva has been linked with a move away for the past few windows. But he is expected to continue at the club. However, the same cannot be said for the Belgian international who could move away from Europe in a big money move.

While Manchester City will try their best to keep hold of their star players, they have already started looking at options to reinforce their midfield. They are looking to sign multiple top stars to ensure they maintain their dominance. To make it happen, they are also ready to cash in on a few of their players.

Kalvin Phillips’s departure is almost certain, and they are also looking to cash in on Matheus Nunes. Since the 25-year-old hasn’t reached the expected levels, Manchester City will look to recoup the money they invested and use it to sign their midfield targets.
