Hansi Flick wants Barcelona to keep Andreas Christensen

Hansi Flick does not want Barcelona to part ways with 28-year-old Danish utility man Andreas Christensen amid his links with Newcastle United.

According to a report by Spanish outlet Fichajes, Andreas Christensen is the subject of interest from Newcastle United. The Magpies are keen on signing the Barcelona utility man in the summer transfer window. However, Hansi Flick does not want the Blaugrana to part ways with the 28-year-old.

Andreas Christensen: A dependable performer for Barcelona

Andreas Christensen has been one of the most consistent performers for Barcelona since arriving from Chelsea in a Bosman move in July 2022. The Dane was one of the best defenders in the world when he joined the Blaugrana and has gone from strength to strength in the last two years.

The 28-year-old showcased his ability to play as a holding midfielder in the second half of the 2023/24 season, effortlessly slotting into the role. Meanwhile, Christensen has turned out 74 times thus far for Barcelona, chipping in with four goals and three assists. However, the player’s long-term future at the Catalan club is uncertain.

Barcelona’s never-ending financial issues mean almost every player is expendable if he can yield an appealing fee. Such a situation has captured the attention of several suitors who want to secure Andreas Christensen’s services in the summer transfer window. Newcastle United are one of his prospective suitors.

Premier League return in the pipeline?

Newcastle United also considered a January move for Andreas Christensen before a move failed to materialise. The Tyneside club’s continued interest in the Barcelona utility man is understandable. Sven Botman and Jamaal Lascelles are nursing long-term injuries that will keep them on the sidelines until next year.

In addition, the Danish international can be an option for the holding midfield berth. So, he is a viable target for Newcastle United. However, Hansi Flick will block Christensen’s departure, and he wants the Blaugrana to keep hold of the former Chelsea defender beyond the summer transfer window.

Recent reports have claimed that the 28-year-old is unfazed by his links with Newcastle United. However, it will be interesting to see if the Magpies can turn Andreas Christensen’s head and convince him to swap Barcelona for St. James’ Park.
