Bruno Fernandes unlikely to leave Manchester United

Portuguese star Bruno Fernandes is unlikely to part ways with Manchester United despite interest from Bayern Munich.

According to a report from Football Insider, Bruno Fernandes has been linked with Bayern Munich in recent weeks but he seems unlikely to make a surprise move away from Old Trafford. The Portuguese international is an integral part of the Manchester United first-team setup and they are keen on keeping him at the club.

Fernandes made the move to the English club in the winter of 2020 from Sporting CP for a reported fee of around £47 million. He has gone from strength to strength over the years and is currently the club captain.

The 29-year-old featured in 48 matches across competitions for United in the 2023/24 season. He started 47 of those fixtures and contributed towards 28 goals (15 goals, 13 assists). He was one of the standout players for the Red Devils in a season where they ended up winning the FA Cup.

While he still has two years left on his current deal at United and there is an option for another 12 months, the United skipper has been linked with a move away from the club. Bayern Munich are the ones who are interested in his services as per the reports.

The German giants want to further bolster their attack and feel Fernandes would be an ideal fit in Vincent Kompany’s plans. Despite the links with the German club, the 29-year-old seems unlikely to leave Old Trafford in the summer.

Bruno Fernandes to continue at United

The new part-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe is looking to execute a major overhaul at the club in the summer. While he seems to sanction the departure of quite a few players to make room for new signings, he has no intentions of selling Fernandes.

Ratcliffe and INEOS consider the Portuguese international an integral part of their plans moving ahead. They see him as a key figure and feel he could lead them back to the top. Meanwhile, Fernandes is not considering leaving United, he wants to pen down a new deal and continue at the club.

The attacking midfielder hopes that the new ownership can bring in major changes and they could start competing for major silverware. While Bayern have been linked with the former Sporting star, the report suggests that it would be a big surprise if the interest is genuine given that Fernandes is already 29.
