According to Give Me Sport, Chelsea are eager to explore a move for Riccardo Calafiori, who is available for a reported price of £20 million in the summer. Chelsea can sign Riccardo Calafiori for £20 million

Chelsea are eager to kick-start their exciting project with another new managerial appointment after bringing former Leicester City boss Enzo Maresca as their head coach. They are also keen to recruit some more young and exciting stars, with a versatile defender certainly on their agenda.

The Blues are looking at a left-sided centre-back as well as a full-back, as a player who can play both roles will be highly appreciated. Riccardo Calafiori could do that, with the Italian defender attracting plenty of interest from the Premier League, including Tottenham.

He has had a stellar season at Bologna, helping them make it to next season’s Champions League. Chelsea can reportedly sign him for £20 million, which seems like a bargain of sorts in the current market, especially for a defender of his quality and versatility.

The 22-year-old defender, however, may have other plans, as he could stay in Serie A. His Bologna manager, Thiago Motta, is set to be announced as Juventus’s new boss, and he would like to bring Calafiori to Turin, which could complicate any move to Chelsea or the Premier League.

Chelsea’s summer plans in force

Chelsea are eager to make the best out of the summer window, while minding their spending to strengthen their squad. For instance, they are very close to signing soon-to-be free agent Tosin Adarabioyo from Fulham and could also look to add another bargain defender before the window shuts.

The West Londoners will also target a new striker, although some credible sources have ruled out a move for Victor Osimhen, who happened to be their top target since the January window. A new goalkeeper could also be on the cards, with at least four or five players expected to arrive in the close season.
