La Liga heavyweights Barcelona reportedly expect to receive offers for 19-year-old Senegalese international Mikayil Faye, a target for Arsenal.
According to a report by Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo, Mikayil Faye is the subject of interest from Arsenal. Clubs in England, France, and Italy are keen on signing the 19-year-old wonderkid from Barcelona in the summer transfer window. Meanwhile, the Catalan giants expect to receive offers for the teenage sensation.
Mikayil Faye and his Barcelona journey so far
Mikayil Faye took no time to settle down in Spain after joining Barcelona from NK Kustosija last summer. The teenage prospect has been one of the best young defenders in the world in the last 18 months, going from strength to strength since arriving in Europe. He has also broken into the Senegalese national team this year.
The 19-year-old has enjoyed an excellent debut season with Barcelona, turning out 33 times for Barcelona Atletic while chipping in with four goals. However, Faye does not want to represent the reserve team next season. That has left the youngster’s future up in the air, and a summer exit might be on the cards.
Barcelona will either integrate Faye into the first-team squad, where he will unlikely receive regular game time, or part ways with him while including a buyback clause in the deal. The situation has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several high-profile clubs across Europe, including Arsenal.
London calling?
Arsenal’s interest in Mikayil Faye is understandable. The Gunners are scouring the market for a young defender who can be a long-term solution at the heart of the defence. They also want this player to play backup to William Saliba and Gabriel Magalhaes.
Several candidates, including Faye, have thus emerged on Arsenal’s radar heading into the summer transfer window. The Gunners now have a shot in their arm as Barcelona might cash in on the 19-year-old. And the Catalan giants expect to receive offers for the teenage sensation.
It will be interesting to see if Arsenal can succeed with an opening offer for the Senegalese international. However, the potential inclusion of a buyback clause might complicate matters, as Faye might not be a long-term option for the North London club.
