Manchester United set to agree £80,000-a-week deal with Kobbie Mainoo

Kobbie Mainoo will reportedly sign a new contract with Manchester United after UEFA Euro 2024, with the deal being worth £80,000 per week.

According to a report by Daily Star, Kobbie Mainoo has put off final talks over a bumper new deal with Manchester United until after UEFA Euro 2024. The two parties have sealed an agreement in principle of a contract worth £80,000 per week. However, the renewal will not become official before July.

Kobbie Mainoo and his rapid rise

Kobbie Mainoo was the breakout star at Manchester United in the 2023/24 season. The Red Devils have a rich history of giving academy graduates regular first-team minutes whenever the opportunities present themselves. And like Marcus Rashford and Alejandro Garnacho before him, the teenage sensation has grabbed his chances with both hands.

The 19-year-old struggled with an ankle injury when the 2023/24 season kicked off. However, the young midfield prospect did not look back after returning to action, amassing over 2,500 minutes of game time in 35 appearances across all competitions, chipping in with five goals and three assists.

Mainoo’s progress at Manchester United this season has earned him his maiden England call-up. The Englishman made his debut for the Three Lions in the March international break and is going to UEFA Euro 2024 this summer. Meanwhile, the youngster’s exploits have alerted several high-profile clubs, including Real Madrid.

Summer move beckons?

It is hardly surprising that European heavyweights want to sign Kobbie Mainoo in the summer transfer window. However, Manchester United will not entertain any offers to part ways with the English international in the coming weeks. Instead, they want to tie him to a new contract.

Recent reports have claimed that talks between Mainoo and Manchester United have advanced. The latest update has revealed an agreement in principle between the two parties. The new deal will see the 19-year-old wonderkid receive a bumper salary hike, as he has agreed to a deal with £80,000-a-week wages.

However, Mainoo will not sign his new contract before returning from England’s campaign at UEFA Euro 2024. Nevertheless, Manchester United fans will be excited by the prospect of the Englishman extending his stay at Old Trafford.
