Manchester City interested in Michael Zetterer

Manchester City are reportedly keen on signing Michael Zetterer from Werder Bremen. He looks like a replacement for Stefan Ortega.

According to Christian Falk, Manchester City are interested in signing Werder Bremen stopper Michael Zetterer in the summer. The 28-year-old Bundesliga goalkeeper could be available for an undisclosed release clause, with Pep Guardiola probably eyeing him as a replacement for Stefan Ortega.

Manchester City keen on Zetterer

Manchester City are staring towards a rather strange summer transfer window. Pep Guardiola might have clarity on the players and positions he wants to strengthen, although some departures are still unclear. One key position on the manager’s mind is that of the goalkeeper, with Stefan Ortega and Ederson’s futures called into question.

Ederson remains linked with a move to Saudi Arabia, while Ortega is eager to be the undisputed No.1 choice elsewhere. It is unlikely that Manchester City will lose both key goalkeepers in the same window. It does look like Ortega might be the one heading out, and the club is probably keeping hold of the Brazilian for another season.

Ortega could quit Manchester City for a new challenge and become a No.1 choice elsewhere. Should Ederson leave, then Guardiola is unlikely to make the German his No.1 despite his solid displays in the Brazilian’s absence, which does leave the door open for him to move on.

Ederson might stay put and probably move on in the following summer, although Manchester City are now looking at some options to replace Ortega. They have now seen links to 28-year-old Bundesliga goalkeeper Michael Zetterer ahead of the summer window.

Manchester City are not linked to many goalkeepers, considering there is speculation surrounding both their stoppers. Werder Bremen’s Michael Zetterer has emerged as a big target for Guardiola, who probably sees the 28-year-old Bundesliga goalkeeper as a replacement option for Ortega.

Zetterer’s contract has an undisclosed release clause that runs until 2027. Hence, should Werder Bremen choose to sell him, they will likely demand the full clause, as the 28-year-old now appears to be their No.1 choice in goal heading into the new season after a terrific season in which he usurped their former first-choice stopper.
