Barcelona will not launch the offensive to sign 88-cap Portuguese international Bernardo Silva from Manchester City.
According to a report by Spanish outlet SPORT, Bernardo Silva has been the subject of interest from Barcelona. The Blaugrana will delve into the market for a midfielder in the summer transfer window. However, the Catalan giants have walked away from the move to sign the 29-year-old Manchester City mainstay.
Bernardo Silva and his topsy-turvy ride at Manchester City
Bernardo Silva has been one of the best players in the world in the last few years. The Portuguese international, who has turned out 88 times for the Seleccao, spent the first few seasons of his stint with Manchester City as a rotation option, with David Silva’s presence affecting his game time.
However, the 29-year-old has come into his own in recent campaigns, becoming a mainstay in the final third for Manchester City due to his work rate and creative genius. Silva has enjoyed an exceptional 2023/24 campaign, contributing to 27 goals in 49 appearances, finding the back of the net 11 times while providing 16 assists.
While Silva remains a pivotal figure for Manchester City, he is keen on embarking on a new adventure in the summer transfer window. The former AS Monaco playmaker does not have a shortage of suitors, with widespread reports heavily linking him with Paris Saint-Germain and Barcelona.
The long-standing Barcelona interest
Barcelona’s interest in Bernardo Silva is understandable, with the player also keen on joining the club. While Ilkay Gundogan has been top-class since arriving from Manchester City last summer, he is approaching the twilight of his career. In addition, the Portuguese international can be an option for the right-wing berth, making him a viable target.
However, the latest report by SPORT has claimed that Barcelona will not launch the offensive to secure Bernardo Silva’s services in the summer transfer window. The Catalan giants have cooled their interest in the 29-year-old as they will prioritise signing a more defensive-minded midfielder.
As for the offensive department, Nico Williams is Barcelona’s top target heading into the summer transfer window. So, Paris Saint-Germai is Silva’s best option if he pushes for a summer departure from Manchester City.
