Bayern Munich keen on John Stones

Bayern Munich could sound out a move for ‘unhappy’ star John Stones from Manchester City as the Germans look for another English addition.

According to Football Insider, Bayern Munich could make a move for ‘unhappy’ star John Stones in the summer. The Bavarians are keeping close tabs on the Manchester City defender’s situation, as former colleague Vincent Kompany might request his signing should he take over from Thomas Tuchel.

Bayern Munich chasing John Stones

John Stones has been one of the great signings under Pep Guardiola’s time at Manchester City, and he remains one of their important players. He did have a somewhat indifferent season last time out, as he picked his sixth Premier League winners’ medal, but was reportedly unhappy with his relative lack of game time.

Stones only played twice since scoring against Liverpool in early March, with minor niggles likely to have been the reason for his absence. Guardiola has gone ahead with his other defenders during that period, although there’s a belief that the Catalan considers the £47.5 million defender a crucial part of his plans.

Yet, with reports stating that he remains ‘unhappy’ at Manchester City, Bayern Munich is ready to make their move for the defender. The Bavarians have recently recruited two English stars, Harry Kane and Eric Dier, with the former Tottenham pair proving to be a success since arriving in Germany.

They are in the market for a new defender and could look at Stones as a big target. Manchester City were reportedly considering a new contract for the defender. However, things have been quiet on that front for a few months now, which could be an indication they might consider offers for the England international, whose contract expires in 2026.

Stones’ chase has Vincent Kompany’s fingerprints

John Stones’s most significant concern would be losing his place in the England setup in the future should his Manchester City game time keep plummeting. However, the interest from Bayern might prove monumental, and there are suggestions that Vincent Kompany’s fingerprints are all over this transfer pursuit.

Kompany seems like the favorite to take over from Thomas Tuchel, as in the last few days, reports linking him to the Bayern job have intensified. Kompany knows Stones all too well, having partnered the England international for a few seasons at Manchester City with the Belgian skipper at the club.
