Newcastle United ready to initiate contract discussions with Alexander Isak

Newcastle United will hold talks with Alexander Isak to discuss a new deal for the striker amid growing interest from elsewhere.

According to Football Insider, Newcastle United are keen to tie down Alexander Isak to a new and improved deal, with talks set to commence after the FA Cup final. The Magpies intend to make a big statement about their ambitions and will want the Swedish striker to commit to his future amid interest from the likes of Arsenal.

Newcastle United to extend Alexander Isak contract?

Newcastle United might have wanted to qualify for the UEFA Champions League in consecutive seasons. But their seventh-place finish has not made things comfortable. For starters, they are not yet confirmed to play in the UEFA Europa Conference League, considering Manchester United are still in contention to be the seventh and final English entrant in Europe via the FA Cup final.

Hence, some decisions will be made after the Wembley showdown between the Manchester Clubs, as the Newcastle players will then get to know what the future holds. It will be a crucial period for Newcastle United, who are keen to make a big statement, especially by retaining some of their important players.

For starters, they are keen to offer Alexander Isak, who arrived in a £63 million move, a new deal amid interest from Arsenal and other clubs. Like all other Newcastle players, the forward will have to take a 20% pay cut without Champions League football, although the Magpies are keen to offer him fresh terms and make him one of the highest-paid players at St James Park.

They are not ready to sell him, despite reports stating the club might have to bring in funds to balance their PSR obligations. The Magpies will open talks with Isak after the  FA Cup final, although the striker’s response will be vital in determining what he seeks from his future. Hence, nothing has been decided as of now, as Arsenal target could yet choose to move on and play for a team that is challenging up top.

Newcastle United keen to hold on to their stars

Not only Isak but some other stars’ futures are in doubt. Bruno Guimaraes has attracted plenty of interest, although he also has a release clause that will leave the Magpies powerless should someone trigger it.

Anthony Gordon has also made the news, as there have been some links with Liverpool recently. Newcastle United have since downplayed those rumours, as they are keen to hold on to players like Gordon, Isak, and Guimaraes to build a bigger team.
