Manuel Ugarte has re-emerged on Chelsea’s shortlist ahead of the summer, with PSG ready to sell the Uruguayan as part of their clearout.
According to TBR, Chelsea could reignite their interest in Manuel Ugarte ahead of the summer. The Blues eye the 23-year-old South American ace as a potential replacement for Conor Gallagher, and PSG are ready to let him leave as part of their summer clearout.
Chelsea rekindles Manuel Ugarte’s interest
Chelsea will enter the market with fresh ideas on how to strengthen their squad while making some changes that may not be seen as popular. For instance, they are unsure about Conor Gallagher’s future and could end up selling him alongside a host of other stars they do not view for the future of the club.
Tottenham are leading the chase for Gallagher, and should the England international eventually depart, they will enter the market for a replacement. Incidentally, they are reportedly ready to rekindle their interest in former target Manuel Ugarte, with the Blues losing the race for the 23-year-old South American ace last summer to PSG.
Ugarte has been used less than he would have liked, having come with a big reputation from his time at Sporting CP. Chelsea wanted him last summer and were willing to pay his release clause. PSG went into the equation and took him from under their noses, as the Blues then went on to spend a fortune on the likes of Moises Caicedo and Romeo Lavia.
However, they now view Ugarte as Gallagher’s replacement and might make enquiries about the PSG midfielder. The Parisians are reportedly demanding £51 million, which might be the price they paid to sign him last summer from Sporting CP. Whether Chelsea are in agreement to pay that much remains to be seen, although they might have a credible interest in the 23-year-old South American ace.
PSG to sell Ugarte?
PSG are coming off another disappointing season in the Champions League, as they had built a big team with the intention of winning the competition. There have been a few disappointments this season, and Ugarte’s name is at the very top of that list.
PSG is willing to offload a number of players as part of its revamp, especially in light of Kylian Mbappe’s departure. Ugarte is one of those they might sell and move on, with manager Luis Enrique preferring Vitinha in the Uruguayan’s position.
