Tottenham are leading the race for Conor Gallagher as the Chelsea midfielder is leaning towards leaving Stamford Bridge in the summer.

According to Football Insider, Tottenham could find themselves in pole position to sign Conor Gallagher ahead of the summer. The £50 million-rated Chelsea mainstay seems likely to leave the club with Spurs, one of his long-time admirers, while Newcastle United are also kee.

Are Tottenham leading the Gallagher race?

Chelsea are desperate to raise funds in the market to balace their finances amid PSR regulations looming large over their heads. The club plans to cash in on some academy stars, including Armando Broja, Ian Maatsen, Trevoh Chalobah and, more importantly, Conor Gallagher.

The £50 million-rated Chelsea mainstay is someone the club is placing all hopes on to get the highest price in the market. The midfielder will have a year remaining on his existing deal, and talks over a new contract have reportedly collapsed, leading the media to rekindle speculation around a move to rivals Tottenham.

Spurs have been chasing the midfielder since last summer and have reportedly planned on making an early move for Gallagher in the summer. Chelsea have the June 30 deadline to raise funds, which will aid Tottenham’s plans with the transfer of the midfielder, as the Blues are unsure about his future.

Spurs are apparently in the lead to bring the midfielder, as they are ready to offer him an essential role on their side and only make a short move across London. They are faced with the prospect of Newcastle United’s interest in the £50 million-rated midfielder, but still, Tottenham are considered front runners as things stand.

Newcastle United may not sign Gallagher

While Gallagher remains a big player of interest for Newcastle United, the club are not in the best of financial positions to make the move. Chelsea are set to demand a significant fee to sell the £50 million-rated mainstay, meaning the Magpies might struggle to raise funds amid their struggles with PSR obligations.

Hence, Tottenham have a big chance to sign him, unless Gallagher himself rejects the idea of moving to Chelsea’a arch rivals. Family and long-term allegiances could play a big part in his decision-making, opening the gates for other clubs to swoop in, as Gallagher will surely attract some top interest.
