High-flying La Liga club Girona will reportedly look to sign 33-year-old Liverpool midfielder Thiago Alcantara in a Bosman move this summer.
According to a report by the Inside Spain column on Caught Offside, Thiago Alcantara is the subject of interest from Girona. The high-flying La Liga club are keen on signing a central midfielder in the summer transfer window amid uncertainties surrounding the future of Aleix Garcia. So, a Bosman move for the Liverpool midfielder might be on the cards.
Thiago Alcantara and his forgettable Liverpool journey
Thiago Alcantara has endured a frustrating spell since joining Liverpool from Bayern Munich in a deal worth around €22 million. The Spanish international, who has turned out 46 times for La Roja, arrived at Anfield in September 2020 after an exceptional 2019/20 campaign, having won the treble of the Bundesliga, DFB Pokal, and the UEFA Champions League with Bayern.
However, Thiago’s stint with Liverpool has been a stop-start ride, with sustained spells in the first team eluding him due to persistent fitness issues. That has also been the case this season, with the 33-year-old managing only five minutes of game time in one appearance thus far.
He has not even completed 100 appearances for Liverpool in four years at the Merseyside club. And the Reds are ready to part ways with the experienced midfielder as a free agent in the summer transfer window, with his contract expiring on July 1. However, Thiago does not have a shortage of suitors, with Girona joining the race to sign him.

Girona’s interest in Thiago Alcantara is understandable. The high-flying La Liga club have shocked one and all by qualifying for next season’s UEFA Champions League. So, they will delve into the market for multiple reinforcements to bolster their squad.
In addition, the White and Reds are in a spot of bother over Aleix Garcia’s long-term future amid his links with several high-profile clubs across Europe. While Thiago will be a short-term replacement, he has the quality to elevate the levels of the Girona midfield unit.
Meanwhile, other European bigwigs like Inter Milan and Juventus are interested in the Liverpool midfielder. Saudi Pro League clubs are also keen on signing the 46-cap Spanish international. So, it will be interesting to see if Girona can beat the competition to Thiago’s signature.
