Chelsea midfield star Conor Gallagher has no intentions of joining Eddie Howe’s Newcastle United in the summer.
According to a report from Football Insider, Newcastle United are keen on reinforcing their midfield in the summer and they have their eyes set on Chelsea’s Conor Gallagher. But, the Magpies have suffered a major blow as he has no intentions of joining the Tyneside club.
Gallagher has come up the ranks at Chelsea and has been a part of their first team since the summer of 2022. He has been one of the standout performers for the London club in the ongoing season. He has been involved in 49 matches this term and has contributed towards 16 goals (7 goals, 9 assists).
While he has been in exceptional form and Mauricio Pochettino is desperate to have him in his squad for next season, he could be on his way out in the summer. His contract with the Blues runs out in the summer of 2025. With just over a year left on his deal, Chelsea were looking to extend his stay but contract renewal talks have reached an impasse.
Gallagher doesn’t want to join Newcastle
The Blues are now looking to offload him in the summer to help balance their books. He is an academy graduate which means he will be seen as a 100 per cent profit on their books helping them with FFP. With Chelsea looking to sanction his departure in the summer, Newcastle United are one of the clubs looking to make the best out of the situation.
The Magpies want to reinforce their midfield as they look to bounce back next season. Gallagher has been on their radar for a long while and they are looking to make a move in the summer. While they are keen on his signature, the 24-year-old has no intentions of joining Eddie Howe’s team.
Despite the progress they have made in recent years, Gallagher doesn’t want to play for the Magpies. His priority is to continue his childhood club but if he has to move, the English international will prefer making a move to one of the London clubs.
