Arsenal have reportedly proposed to bring Martin Zubimendi in the summer, with Barcelona also interested in the midfielder.
According to Mundo Deportivo, Arsenal may have already proposed to convince Real Sociedad to sell Martin Zubimendi. The €60 million-rated Barcelona target is seemingly happy where he is but could be open to a departure in the summer, with his club unlikely to sell him for less than his release clause.
Have Arsenal made Martin Zubimendi’s proposal?
Arsenal has been in the market for a new midfielder, with heavy links to some of the notable names, including Martin Zubimendi. The €60 million-rated midfielder has been one of the key performers for Real Sociedad, where he is seemingly happy at the moment.
A few clubs are showing concrete interest, with the report suggesting Arsenal have reportedly made an offer to sign him. The Gunners were thinking about a €50 million bid earlier, which seems less than his €60 million-rated release clause in that Sociedad contract.
The Gunners are considered front runners in the chase and also have the means to meet with his current clause. Despite media reports, there are alternative suggestions that Zubimendi is not their primary target for the position, with links to Barcelona’s Frenkie de Jong and Everton’s Amadou Onana in recent periods.
Whether or not the club have actually made an offer remains the question, but Arteta has already suggested they are working on new signings for some time now. Considering Zubimendi has been a target for over a year, they might have had some level of talks with Sociedad and the player’s agents to understand things about a potential transfer.
Barcelona interested in Zubimendi?
Much like Arsenal, Barcelona have chased Zubimendi for over a year, as they had earlier considered him the ideal replacement for Sergio Busquets. The Catalans met with his agent recently, but given their financial state, it might prevent them from spending big on players, and they are certainly not in a position to pay up the €60 million-rated midfielder’s release clause in full.
Sociedad will not sell for less, although there are chances the Catalans could open talks over structuring the deal with their Spanish counterparts for Zubimendi. In that case, a move is certainly possible, and they could design it in a way that suits all parties concerned.
