Arsenal establish contact with Nico Williams

Arsenal have established contact with representatives of Nico Williams as they look to sign the Chelsea target in the summer.

According to a report from Give Me Sport, Arsenal are keen on bolstering their attack ahead of next season, and they have their eyes set on Nico Williams. The Athletic Club winger has been in sensational form throughout the ongoing season, and the Gunners have established contact with his agents as they look to land the player, also a target for Chelsea.

Williams has come up the ranks at Athletic Club, and he has been a part of their first team since the summer of 2021. The Spaniard has gone from strength to strength with every passing season, establishing himself as a mainstay at the club as well as the Spanish national team.

The 21-year-old winger seems to have taken his game to another level this term. He has featured in 34 matches across competitions, contributing towards 23 goals (7 goals, 16 assists). The left winger has put in some incredible performances, and he played a big part in their Copa del Rey triumph.

Nico Williams to leave Athletic Club?

Nico Williams’s consistent performances have put him on the radar of multiple top clubs. While he has over three years left on his deal, there is a £43 million release clause in his contract which could lead to his departure. Chelsea and Arsenal are two clubs keen on his signature, and they won’t really have a problem triggering his release.

Despite spending a fortune on payer transfer, things have not really worked out as planned for the Blues. As a result, the West Londoners are once expected to go big in the summer, and Williams is one of their targets. While Chelsea will make things difficult, Arsenal are pushing hard to sign the Spanish winger.

Arsenal are keen on Williams

The Gunners are ready to trigger his release as they feel he represents good value for money. While Arsenal have been scoring goals for fun this season, Mikel Arteta is still looking to add more firepower to his attack.

The 21-year-old’s arrival would provide the likes of Gabriel Martinelli and Leandro Trossard with stiff competition for a place in the starting XI, and it will help raise the overall standards of their attack.

The North Londoners have contacted his representatives to understand if the player is interested in moving to London and the kind of financial efforts they will have to make apart from the release clause to make things happen. According to the report, they will have to offer him at least £100,000-a-week wages, more than what he currently earns at Athletic Club.
