Real Madrid will offer a one-year contract to 34-year-old Spanish international Joselu, having decided to complete a permanent summer move.
According to Jose Luis Sanchez on El Chiringuito TV, Joselu will likely remain at Real Madrid beyond the summer transfer window. The Merengues want to extend the Spanish forward’s stay at the Santiago Bernabeu by a year. However, it is unclear if they will trigger the purchase option in his contract or negotiate a new price with Espanyol.
Joselu and his dream Real Madrid return
Joselu has enjoyed a dream return to Real Madrid since arriving at the Santiago Bernabeu from the relegated Espanyol on a season-long loan deal last summer. Los Blancos had lost Karim Benzema to a shock Saudi Pro League move and decided not to sign a long-term replacement, instead zeroing in on the Spaniard.
The 34-year-old arrived at Real Madrid on the back of two brilliant campaigns with Deportivo Alaves and Espanyol, having been a rare bright spot for two relegated clubs. Joselu’s form has not dwindled at Real Madrid despite being a bit-part player for Los Blancos.
The former Espanyol striker, a graduate of Real Madrid’s youth division, has amassed 16 goals and three assists in only 1,912 minutes of game time thus far across 46 appearances in all competitions. So, he has achieved his objective while being a prolific attacker for the club of his dreams.
A week to savour and looking to the future
Joselu’s match-winning brace helped Real Madrid come from behind to seal a spot in the UEFA Champions League final at Bayern Munich’s expense earlier this week. So, after going to the final as a fan two years ago, he will have the chance to turn out for Los Blancos. Meanwhile, the Spanish international has his heart set on remaining at the Santiago Bernabeu beyond the summer transfer window.
The 34-year-old is also attracting interest from abroad, with Manchester United and West Ham United keen on signing him. However, with Joselu keen on remaining at Real Madrid, a Premier League move is unlikely. And the Merengues are ready to keep hold of the Spaniard for another year.
While a permanent move is on the cards, it is unclear if the Spanish giants will trigger their purchase option of €1.5 million or negotiate a new price with Espanyol. However, Joselu’s desire to remain at Real Madrid is one step closer to coming true.
