Atletico Madrid eyeing Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg swoop, Tottenham ready to sell

Atletico Madrid are ready to re-ignite their interest in Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg in the summer, with Tottenham prepared to sell for €15 million.

According to Mundo Deportivo, Atletico Madrid is ready to rekindle their interest in Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg in the summer, with Diego Simeone wanting the midfielder. Tottenham is ready to sell the Danish international for a price of €15 million, which is well below their previous asking rate.

Atletico Madrid eyeing Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg swoop

There were plenty of rumours last summer about Atletico Madrid chasing Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, with suggestions that the Dane was keen and might have waited until late for things to move. However, neither did he leave Tottenham then nor in the January market, as the club were pessimistic about losing the 28-year-old ace midway through the campaign.

Hojbjerg is seemingly unhappy at the club and eager to move on after losing his status as a sure starter since new manager Ange Postecoglou arrived. The Australian has preferred Pape Matar Sarr and Yves Bissouma for significant periods of the season, rendering the 28-year-old ace his fourth or even fifth-choice midfielder at times.

With Tottenham ready to cash in, the idea of signing the 28-year-old ace might entice a few clubs, including Atletico Madrid. Diego Simeone likes hard-working players who bring stability rather than flair, and Hojbjerg certainly fits the bill, especially now that Spurs want only €15 million.

Earlier, Tottenham were asking for way more than that price, and with the drop in their demands, Atletico Madrid will undoubtedly have a crucial interest in the 28-year-old ace. They might end up facing competition for Hojbjerg, although there’s a feeling the Spanish giants have been in contact with the player’s entourage since last summer.

Juventus to rival Atletico for Hojbjerg?

Juventus were heavily linked during the January window as they looked for someone to replace the banned Paul Pogba. They miss someone with a presence in their midfield. With Adrien Rabiot likely to leave the club as a free agent, the Bianconeri might view Hojbjerg as a brilliant market opportunity.

Hence, Atletico might have to dig deep, as Juventus are equally a good proposition for Hojbjerg to consider. However, the Spanish giants might have a slight upper hand, assuming they have been chasing him well before Juventus did, although things are always subject to change in football and the transfer market.
